New data shows most favoured locations for holiday homes

Unsurprisingly, towns and villages on the county's stunning coastline dominate the list, with parts of Northumberland National Park also represented.

While tourism is an increasingly important part of the county's economy, there are also concerns about the impact on local people.

The popular seaside village of Beadnell has the highest percentage of second homes and holiday lets at 64%. This is followed by nearby Bamburgh - famed for its castle - with 57.6%. Other popular seaside areas include Newton-by-the-Sea (49.7%); Holy Island (48.3%) and Craster (44.8%).

There are concerns that the demand for second homes and holiday lets is pricing local people out of owning a home.
