Mountain rescue teams work to save stricken endurance race competitor

MOUNTAIN rescue volunteers were called out to the Cheviots in Northumberland to rescue a competitor in the famed Montane Spine Race who was struggling with “significant leg pain’.

The individual was between Mozie Law and Windy Gyle in the Cheviot Hills.

The rescue took place on Friday morning after race organisers contacted Northumbria Police, who in turn called out the Northumberland National Park (NNP) and North of Tyne mountain rescue teams. The runner was accompanied by the race’s safety team, but they required a stretcher to complete the rescue.
