Magnay wary of Boston side 'full of confidence'
The Journal
|April 26, 2025
GATESHEAD manager Carl Magnay is all too aware of the challenge posed by Boston United because they remind him of a recent Heed side.
-
The current Gateshead boss was in the final stages of his playing career when a side managed by former Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson embarked on a first season back in the National League.
After a challenging opening half to the 2022/23 season, a stunning upturn in form helped the Heed secure their place in non-league’s top tier and laid further foundations for a remarkable period in the club's history.
The story of that season appears to have been replicated by Boston, who looked set for an immediate return to the National League North before a run of just four defeats in 13 games catapulted them away from the relegation zone.
Heed will check on the fitness of keeper George Shelvey
