Landlord banned for failings over safety standards

A LANDLORD has been banned from renting out properties due to his repeated failure to ensure minimum housing safety standards.

Durham County Council applied for a banning order, which has led to Kamran Adil, 54, being banned from operating for two years.

Adil, of Halterburn Close, Gosforth, Newcastle cannot work as a landlord or managing agent at a lettings agency for this time period, following a ruling by the First Tier Property Tribunal.

He also failed to comply with the local authority's Selective Licensing scheme.

This gives the council powers to regulate landlords and ensure private-rented properties are maintained to a high standard in 103 areas across County Durham.

Adil was also taken to court twice by the council, in 2023 and 2024, and found guilty of 14 offences under the Housing Act 2004.
