Investigation after worker, 28, dies at funfair

An investigation has been launched after the death of a man working at a Whitley Bay funfair at the weekend.

A huge emergency services response was triggered on Saturday afternoon after the incident occurred - with the first reports made to police at around 2.15pm.

It was later confirmed that the man - later named as 28-year-old Carrie Lee Stavers - had died. An investigation is now in the hands of Northumbria Police and the Health and Safety Executive.

Yesterday, pictures from the scene showed a ride thought to have been involved in the incident taped off.

A police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 2.15pm on Saturday, we received a report that a man had been injured in a workplace accident at Spanish City Summer Funfair in the Spanish City Plaza area of Whitley Bay in North Tyneside.
