Coffee shop brewing up new site to help growth

COFFEE shop Layneway & Co is expanding with a new site in the Tynemouth home of former bakery and cafe business Toast.

- TOM KEIGHLEY

The independent operator has run a successful sit-in and takeaway coffee shop on Newcastle's High Bridge Street since 2016, expanding the site into adjoining premises in 2023.

Now, founder Nick Birss, who set up the business following time spent working in Australia, has secured the lease of the prominent Front Street premises which went on the market earlier this year following the closure of Toast, which had traded as a bakery, cafe and bar.

Layneway's nine years of success in central Newcastle led it to expand into serving more brunch-orientated food options last year.
