BURNMOOR retained their 10-point lead at the top of the Premier Division, even though they struggled early on at home to Ashington, losing wickets at regular intervals and at lunch were 108-5.

However, Sean Tindale's 62 and Allan Worthy's 33 put on 79 for the seventh wicket to get them up to 201-8. For the visitors, Jack McCarthy scored 35 and, despite Graeme Bridge taking 4-19, Burnmoor held on for the draw at 148-8.

Burnopfield racked up the runs at home to South Northumberland. Ross Whitfield jnr made 52, Matthew Purdy 30, Jonny Bushnell 74 and John Oswell a rapid 79 not out as the hosts declared on 270-5.

South North replied with Solomon Bell scoring 106 not out from 150 balls, which included eight fours, and a breezy 54 from Simon Birtwisle to win a superb run chase on 273-4.

Chester-le-Street poured on the runs, as visiting Sunderland were on the receiving end of some good batting.

Jacob McCann (37), Matthew Cranston (54), Callum Gaffney (35), Kyle Coetzer (84 not out) and James Thompson (51 not out) saw the Cestrians reach 272-3 declared. The Ashbrooke outfit then slumped to 3-3, as Brett Hutchinson ripped through their top order, taking 3-26.

JOBS TO DO THIS WEEK

1. Give the greenhouse a winter tuneup. Check and clean panes, seals and gutters, and add insulation. Make sure you can still ventilate on mild days. Raise tender plants off the floor, add a min-max thermometer and set a small frost-stat heater.
