The Journal
|July 14, 2025
A NORTH East MP has called for compensation for those who saw loved ones die in the contaminated blood scandal to brought forward so that they live to see justice.
Emma Foody, the Labour and Coop MP for Cramlington and Killingworth, cited the plight of a constituent who she said Calls for Infected Blood 'affected' claims to be brought forward.
Ms Foody told the House of Commons that her constituent was especially concerned that parents of people infected may not live to see compensation in their lifetimes.
She said: "I speak today on behalf of one of my constituents, a core participant in the inquiry, who was recently invited to start their claim.
"They have asked specifically when those affected, such as the parents of the infected, will be invited to start their claims, given that they have been waiting for decades for justice and there are concerns that delays may mean that they do not get to see it in their lifetime."
The contaminated blood scandal saw thousands given tainted blood or blood products on the NHS.
