GATESHEAD manager Alun Armstrong confirmed Jovan Malcolm is close to completing a move to Stevenage in the aftermath of an opening home defeat against Southend United.

Armstrong needing to add to his squad

The former West Bromwich Albion forward joined the Heed last summer and went on to score 13 goals in 45 appearances.

Malcolm has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs during the season and a derisory offer from a National League rival had been rejected in recent weeks.

However, a more suitable bid was received from Stevenage last week and Malcolm could complete a move to League One ahead of their Carabao Cup tie with Charlton Athletic tomorrow.

Armstrong admitted the timing of the bid for the versatile forward made life difficult as he oversaw preparations for their National League opener, but is confident he will be able to add to his squad with the funds received for Malcolm.
