MORE than £2,000 has been raised in memory of a teenager who tragically died after getting into difficulty in the sea in Whitley Bay.
Edie Smart died days after she was brought to shore by emergency services and rescue teams at the beach. On Thursday, a major rescue operation was launched and Edie, from Monkseaton, was recovered to shore, where she received medical attention before being airlifted to hospital.
