High-level India-SL talks signal new wave of green investment

In a major boost to Sri Lanka’s power sector, a high-level delegation of top Indian energy investors and industry leaders met with Power and Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody recently, signaling growing Indian Interest in investing in Sri Lanka’s energy landscape — especially in renewable energy and clean energy technologies.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Power and Energy, included prominent figures from India’s energy industry, such as, Sanjiv Puri, chairman and Managing Director of ITC Limited and former chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CID), Shrikant Madhav Vaidya of Lanka Indian Oil Corporation and Christopher George, chairman and CEO of Hykon India Limited — all of whom expressed keen interest in expanding their footprints in Sri Lanka through strategic partnerships.

“This is not just about investment, a senior official at the ministry told reporters following the meeting. “This is about transforming our energy future by leveraging cutting-edge Indian expertise in green power, sustainable fuels and environment-friendly technologies.”
