Govt. assures ITAK of phased development of Jaffna Int'l Airport

Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Rathnayake yesterday (20) assured Parliament that the Jaffna International Airport would be progressively upgraded under a phased business plan.

Responding to a question raised by ITAK MP S. Shritharan, the Minister said plans were underway to extend the airport runway before the middle of next year, enabling the landing of narrow-body aircraft carrying up to 130 passengers. However, he ruled out major expansion due to financial constraints.
