NO Mow May will stay as it brings environmental - and some cost - benefits, but initiatives might need better explaining to residents, Calderdale councillors agreed.

A majority of councillors agreed local community groups playing a vital role in managing some of the borough's green spaces and helping deal with problems like littering should be thanked for their work.

But they rejected calls for service changes from Calderdale Conservatives - Clr Howard Blagbrough's motion to a meeting of the full council also wanted to stop No Mow May, increase the number of public litter bins and ask Government for more money to manage green spaces.

Littering, fly-tipping and long grass and weeds adversely affected the borough, they claimed.
