FATHER TELLS INQUEST OF STRUGGLES WITH BOY'S BEHAVIOUR

- By SOPHIE CORCORAN

Teen's parents were ‘crying out for help’

Logan Slater

A BRIGHOUSE teenager's parents say they were “crying out for support” before he was found dead, an inquest has heard.

Logan Slater, 14, had been missing for two days before his body was found on October 23 last year at Beechwood Park.

The inquest into the Brighouse High student’s death resumed yesterday at Bradford Coroner's Court where his dad, Christopher, gave evidence.

The court heard the Slater family had received support from a one-to-one and family support worker in the year before Logan’s death due to his behaviour “spiralling” and a referral being made from his school.

Mr Slater said: “There were difficulties from behavioural changes to the end of primary school.

“Things just started with his ability to regulate his emotions and situations he found himself in. We would have conversations about dealing with them. He would feel justified in his actions and his approach.

“It wasn't anger, it was more frustration and you would see he would go kind of into himself and a little bit vacant... We tried to talk about how he was feeling but he never really knew.

“He just knew that he didn’t feel happy... He wouldn't be able to understand why he felt that way.”

The court heard that the family received support in 2023, after a referral had been made by the school. Mr Slater said Logan would “push back” at teachers, but often felt he was punished for incidents he was not involved with and often felt a sense of “injustice.”
