'Fartown might have wannabe gangsters but it's friendly - and has a 10/10 chippy'

MANY people living in Fartown have a story to tell about criminal behaviour, from youths carrying knives to property being damaged and waste being illegally dumped.

'Fartown might have wannabe gangsters but it's friendly - and has a 10/10 chippy'

The Huddersfield neighbourhood has been classed as one of the most dangerous in West Yorkshire when it comes to recorded violent crime and sexual offences, according to the latest statistics.

The figures for 2024 show that Fartown and the Leeds Road area of Huddersfield had 1,300 offences, making it the third worst location in West Yorkshire after Leeds city centre and central Bradford.

In some respects, the law-abiding residents of Fartown have become accustomed to the downsides of the area. Everyday sights include suspected drug users begging outside shops and piles of flytipped waste on what was once a beauty spot.

A shop doorway lies shattered after being kicked in, with a dirty mattress left a few feet away.

Martin, who lives in Rawthorpe and is familiar with Fartown, says one local shop had become a hot-spot for begging during the evening and into the early hours.
