End of line for railway station... but a new one will be built 200m away

PLATFORMS WILL CLOSE ON SUNDAY FOR 18 MONTHS OF CONSTRUCTION

- By SEBASTIAN MCCORMICK

A RAILWAY station in Kirklees will permanently close from Sunday while a new site is constructed to replace it.

Ravensthorpe Station will close for 18 months until Summer 2028, while a new station is built.

The new Ravensthorpe Station will be built 200 metres to the west of the current site, and forms part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade.

The new station will have a footbridge with lifts, alongside a new forecourt, and drop-off facilities. A new and longer island platform will mean that longer trains, with more seats for passengers, will be able to stop at Ravensthorpe.

As a result of the 200-metre move, a new four-track railway can be installed through the station, allowing direct services to overtake stopping services.

The new Baker Viaduct will also help the station to reduce journey times between Manchester, Leeds, and York.
