VICTIM 'A BROKEN MESS', SAYS MUM

- By SOPHIE CORCORAN

A SICK Huddersfield paedophile who groomed and abused a teenage girl has been put behind bars.

Evil Gary Lewin previously pleaded guilty to a catalogue of sex offences including sexual activity with a child and inciting a child to take part in sexual activity.

Leeds Crown Court heard on Monday how Lewin targeted the teenager and groomed her by buying her a PlayStation 5, an iPhone and jewellery, before plying her with alcohol and cannabis and sexually assaulting her. The girl's mum faced Lewin, of Brown Royd Avenue, Rawthorpe, as he appeared over a video link from HMP Leeds.

Prosecutor Leila Taleb told the court the offending started in 2024, after Lewin's last release from prison. As well as gifts, he was said to have sent a “plethora” of messages to the girl “which resembled more of a romantic relationship and he was sexually possessive and overly affectionate.”

Ms Taleb said: “As soon as the relationship took off, she stopped going to school. On the third occasion that they were spending time together, he gave her an iPhone Pro Max and they went to buy her a phone case in Huddersfield. He put his arm around her and was touchy feely to the point that people thought they were a couple, and it made her feel uncomfortable. She did say that was something that didn't feel right.

“He would regularly go to her house and they would spend time together. They would watch movies and fall asleep together and would cuddle through the night.”

The court heard Lewin, 42, started by kissing the girl before his offending escalated to sexual activity with her. Ms Taleb said: “He would message her like he was her boyfriend.”
