Toxic plant fears at river beach

A WARNING has been issued after what appeared to be the highly toxic root plant, hemlock, was washed up from the River Plym on to Saltram beach.

A woman contacted after she spotted the roots of the plan on the beach, which is a few yards from The Ride, in Plymstock, last Sunday afternoon.

In recent weeks, there have been a number of instances of hemlock roots washing up on the shoreline in Cornwall. In December last year, hemlock water dropwort was reportedly found by a passer-by at the Gannel estuary, near Newquay.
