I remember an article about a pub in Plymouth covering their roof with a giant St George's Cross ahead of a major football tournament, when we were hoping for England to do well. It was celebrated as a great idea.
I've even had the St George's Cross as well as a red rose painted on my cheek in the buildup to seeing the England rugby team at Twickenham.
It seems that the problem with the St George’s Cross - or the issue that some people might have with it - is that it has been hijacked by certain groups to mean something more than just a national identity.
