The perils of replacing a fridge-freezer

I THOUGHT technology was meant to make things easier? Years ago you bought an electrical appliance in the shop, got your guarantee, it would be delivered, installed, maybe the old one taken away, and that was that!
Nowadays, what a flippin’ palaver. You go to the electrical store, you pay your money, then the delivery nonsense starts.
“We will text you the night before to give you the possible delivery times.” Ah, the four hour ‘window of opportunity’. Mobile phone number? Here we go. I’d rather give a landline, as we don’t get a good signal where I live.
“Computer says No!” No point in arguing, you end up giving it, plus the landline. “Oh, but you can download an app and track us on your phone.” Another app on my phone which in all likelihood I will never need again but which will be treated as an invitation to be my new penpal and, unless I find it and click the right button, will mean I will be receiving offers from them until I get to the Pearly Gates!
