Police turn to knife detector to reduce crime
The Herald

MOBILE FACILITY IN USE AT HIGH-RISK LOCATIONS
POLICE in Devon and Cornwall aim to deploy a mobile airport-style metal detector in an attempt to crack down on the carrying of fearsome weapons.
The initiative, Operation Sceptre, is running until November 19. It aims to focus on online knife retailers and responsible selling, raise awareness to parents and caregivers to ensure they are aware of what packages are being sent to young people at home, and educating young people about the stark dangers of knife carrying.
In Devon and Cornwall, police will be deploying the Gatescan-P portable arch in known high-risk locations to target knife carriers and seize concealed weapons.
