Petition urges pension tax threshold rise

A CAMPAIGN urging Chancellor Rachel Reeves to raise the tax threshold for state pensions in this year’s Spring Statement has been signed by 84,000 people.

Dennis Reed launched a petition on change.org amid concerns over the freeze to the personal allowance of £12,570.

The soaring petition comes amid strong called for the personal tax allowance lowest band to be increased from £12,570 to £20,000. The Spring Statement is being unveiled by Ms Reeves on March 26 and campaigners are hoping she will announce changes.

On the change.org petition Mr Reed said he is concerned about the state of pensioners’ incomes and says that a failure to increase the tax threshold would be a “double whammy” after the Government’s decision to meanstest the Winter Fuel Allowance payment.
