Nine in court over acid attack

ACID ATTACK LED TO DEATH OF 38-YEAR-OLD CITY MAN

SEVEN men from London and two women from Plymouth have appeared in court in connection with an alleged acid attack on a man in his own home.

The nine defendants were brought up - in ones and two at a time - at Plymouth Crown Court yesterday to learn that the charges against some of them may be amended following the death of Danny Cahalane.

The 38-year-old was allegedly attacked with sulphuric acid at a property in Lipson Road on Friday, February 21, at around 3.55am, and suffered “horrific” facial injuries. He remained in hospital after the incident, where he died on May 3.

The police investigation - codenamed Operation Lobpass — has included assistance from the National Crime Agency as well as the Metropolitan Police and Wiltshire Police.

As a result, nine people have been arrested and charged with a number of offences.
