Mural boat salvaged after mystery sinking

PLYMOUTH'S famous mural boat is back on land after sinking in Sutton Harbour.

The St Annes vessel, decorated with pictures of Plymouth by a city artist, has been successfully raised and the salvage crew is trying to find out what went wrong.

Crowds of revellers watched the boat, which had become something of a tourist attraction, go down at the Barbican on Friday evening.

On Tuesday, a salvage team from Fowey in Cornwall raised the St Annes and it is now at the Shore Store at Laira Wharf.

Boat owner Neal Stoneman, speaking to The Herald from holidaying in Spain, said: "The boat yard is keeping me up to date, they are cleaning everything down with fresh water to stop any more damage. They are power washing and stripping the engine."
