Mabel the crossbreed proves a hit at Scruffts

A PLYMOUTH pooch with an inspiring tale has secured a spot in the Scruffts at Crufts semifinal after clinching first place in a week-long agility competition.

Throughout a week-long event, Mabel and her co-owner Kathryn Gill camped at the showground with Ocean City Agility, competing in various jumping and agility rounds.

Scruffts is the section of the Crufts Kennel Club dedicated to crossbreed dogs, providing a platform for remarkable crossbreeds like Mabel to compete.

Laura Schofield, Mabel’s co-owner with Kathryn, said: “Agility is Mabel’s favourite thing to do and she loves the jumping the best by far, she’s very fast and flies over them.

“Kat and Mabel have been participating in agility for nearly three years. Last year, Kat and Mabel also entered Scruffts and ranked in the top six in their category, titled ‘prettiest bitch”.

This year, the dynamic pair came first in their category, earning them a spot in the semifinal. If all goes according to plan, we might even see the pair in the March 2026 Scruffts at Crufts final.
