46 OFFICERS ON A MURDER INQUIRY PUT UP FOR 273 NIGHTS
DEVON and Cornwall Police is set to ask the government to pay up after it put up police officers drafted in to help with a murder inquiry in a series of hotels - including a high-end former jail.
A Freedom of Information Act request by The Herald's sister website, CornwallLive, has revealed the force had to pay out more than £60,000 just on accommodating the additional officers who assisted with the recent investigation.
The murder inquiry saw a large number of police officers, forensic teams, private security and detectives carry out detailed and lengthy searches and evidence gathering at Old Oak Wood in Lower Sticker, Cornwall, since the discovery on June 30 of the body of 43-year-old Daniel Coleman, from St Austell.
As a result of inquiries, James Desborough, 39, whose address was given in court as the same woods, has been charged with murder and remanded into custody pending a trial.
