EALESA TO DONATE ORGAN FOR MUM COLLEEN

- By MAXINE DENTON

A TORPOINT woman is hoping to give her mum a second lease of life by becoming her living kidney donor. Ealesa Evers is preparing to undergo a transplant to give one of her kidneys to her mum, Colleen Body, who has had a long battle with chronic kidney disease.

Ealesa said her mum was born with type one diabetes but was only diagnosed with the condition when she was 17 years old. As a result, Colleen developed chronic kidney disease and lost sight in one eye, with only 30% vision in the other eye.

After suffering kidney failure four years ago, Colleen, 55, started dialysis and now goes in for the treatment three times a week. She said it has been a difficult journey for her but hopes to stop the treatment after the transplant.
