Campaign to reconnect city with its fishing fleet

A NEW campaign is launching in Plymouth this week to reconnect residents with its fishing fleet, with industry bosses saying people don’t realise the scale of the city’s catch - or even where to buy it.

The campaign, by the Plymouth Fishing & Seafood Association (PFSA), is called ‘A Taste of the Salt’ and will debut at The Box on Thursday, with the premiere of a short documentary and portrait photography series celebrating the people behind Plymouth’s boats.

The campaign follows growing concern that Plymouth is becoming increasingly disconnected from its fleet - and more practical steps are also being taken to encourage more people to buy fish caught by the city’s fleet.

Research conducted last year by PFSA and Meor Studio found that almost two thirds (61%) of Plymouth residents do not know where to buy locally caught fish, while 68% mistakenly believe the Fish Quay has closed.
