Bad luck puts an end to Gladiators' hopes of play-offs

PLYMOUTH Gladiators saw their playoff dreams ended as they lost a Championship double header against Redcar Bears, 54-36 away from home and 46-44 at the Coliseum 24 hours later, writes Lewis Beswethrick.
Ben Barker and Joe Thompson suffered injuries in the away fixture after a heat three collision and had to withdraw midway through the meeting. Nicolai Klindt also made a rare appearance in Gladiators colours again, as he is unable to make some meetings due to other racing commitments.
Despite a valiant effort, Plymouth were unable to cope with the difference in team quality after the incident in the away meeting, but they can be proud of their efforts to finish it.
With the injuries the night before, and with and the main body of the team already sidelined or unavailable, Gladiators had to contend with having four guest riders and a Rider Replacement for the home tie. They also had two withdrawals in that battle too.
Heat one and two at the Coliseum saw an encouraging start for the Gladiators, with guests Tobias Thomsen and Zaine Kennedy playing their hand in a 3-3. Alfie Bowtell, who had an encouraging night, helped secure a 4-2 in the next race.
