CLEVERLEY DELIGHTED TO SNAP UP FLEETWOOD CAPTAIN

- By CHRIS ERRINGTON

HEAD coach Tom Cleverley has called the club's newest recuit 'a great acquisition for us' after Plymouth Argyle confirmed the signing of Fleetwood Town captain Brendan Wiredu.

The transfer fee for the 25-year-old has not been disclosed but it has been widely reported to be £300,000. Argyle are understood to have beaten off strong competition from League One rivals Rotherham United to bring him to Home Park, while the length of the contract he has signed with them has not been revealed following his arrival.

Wiredu, who can play in midfield, central defence and fullback, will wear the Pilgrims' number four shirt, which was left vacant after Jordan Houghton completed a move to League One rivals Stevenage earlier this summer.
