WPP shares leap as French rival reported to be eyeing takeover

Shares in WPP have risen sharply amid speculation that the advertising group could be subject to a takeover by a rival or a private equity buyer.
Its French rival Havas, which was listed on Euronext in December and is controlled by the billionaire Vincent Bolloré, is reported to have held internal talks about a potential bid.
WPP's shares rose 11% yesterday, making it the biggest riser on the FTSE 100, after a Sunday Times report suggested Havas and the private equity groups Apollo and KKR had all held internal discussions about certain WPP assets.
