News from the dark side: We've been eating digestives the wrong way up
The Guardian
|April 25, 2025
This could change everything: we are eating chocolate digestives the wrong way up, according to the boss of a factory where they are made.
Even if people dunk them, nibble at them or put them in their mouths in one shameless go, most of us will always have the chocolate on top.
But Anthony Coulson, the general manager at McVitie's chocolate refinery and bakery in Stockport, told the BBC we are eating them incorrectly. The chocolate should be on the bottom and the biscuit on top.
"One of the very first things I learnt when I got to join McVitie's was chocolate side down to eat the digestive," he said. "Up until then, I'd always eaten it the other way round."
