'Historic': India and China see coal power generation fall

Coal power generation fell in both China and India for the first time since the 1970s last year, in a "historic" moment which could bring a decline in global emissions, according to new analysis.

The simultaneous fall in coal-powered electricity in the world's two biggest coal consuming countries is the first since 1973, according to analysts at the Centre for Research of Energy and Clean Air. It was driven by a record launch of clean energy projects.
