Former Philippine president in ICC custody after arrival in Netherlands

The former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has landed in the Netherlands, where he will face accusations of crimes against humanity at the international criminal court for overseeing death squads in his bloody "war on drugs".
The ICC later released a statement saying he had been "surrendered to the custody" of the court.
Nicknamed "the Punisher" in the Philippines for his lethal approach to policing, Duterte, 79, is expected to be transferred to an ICC detention unit. In the coming days, he will be brought before a judge for his initial court appearance.
During his years in office, Duterte oversaw a crackdown on accused drug dealers and addicts in which 30,000 civilians were killed, usually by police and vigilantes. He is the first former Asian leader to be served an arrest warrant filed by the ICC.
