Carmakers 'in fight for lives' against China, says Ford boss

The boss of Ford said yesterday that western carmakers were "in a fight for our lives" against Chinese competition while announcing a partnership with Renault.
The US and French companies said they would work together on two smaller electric vehicles, with the first to be launched in early 2028. They said they would also look at producing vans together.
"We know we're in a fight for our lives in our industry," Jim Farley told journalists in Paris. "There is no better example than here in Europe."
The rapid rise of Chinese EV makers has put pressure on European and US rivals, which have been slower to develop electric vehicles. Manufacturers such as BYD and Chery have gained market share by producing well-reviewed EVs at much lower costs than western manufacturers.
