Work to begin on new South Bank footbridge

WORK is set to begin on a new foot bridge at South Bank railway station over the coming weekend.

Confirmation came at a Tees Valley Combined Authority Cabinet meeting, as a council leader quizzed the body’s head of transport about the timeline.

The works set to take place over the next month will see the demolition of the existing footbridge, deemed unsafe for use and beyond economical repair in October last year, as well as the construction of a temporary footbridge that will enable access to both platforms as well as to Smith’s Dock Road to the north of the station.

Leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council, Labour councillor Alec Brown said: "When can I go back to the residents of South Bank and tell them there's going to be a usable footbridge at the train station?"
