Whitby's maritime event is plaice to be

FISH AND SHIPS FESTIVAL RETURNS WITH NEW 'FISHERMAN'S OLYMPICS'

WHITBY'S Fish and Ships Festival is returning for 2025 with cooking demonstrations, maritime-themed crafts, music - and the event's first "Fisherman's Olympics".

It will see local fishing crews compete in tasks including splicing rope, stacking pots and tug-o-war.

Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to the coast for the family-friendly event taking place over the weekend of Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, to celebrate the seaside town's rich fishing heritage.

Demonstrations in the fish craft marquee will include filleting fish, preparing crab and lobsters, and the best ways to cook shellfish such as scallops, crab and lobster. In the craft marquee, Whitby's library, museums and art gallery will help kids design their own sailing vessel and search for sea glass and fossils.
