NEIL Warnock has told Middlesbrough they have to win promotion this season if they want to keep Hayden Hackney with the midfielder heading to the top flight 'with or without them'.

Hackney has been a key player for Boro so far this season, starring as the club have made their best start to a campaign for some time and currently sit second as we approach the halfway stage.

With January just around the corner, Hackney’s future at Boro is likely to become an increasing talking point, with no shortage of potential suitors in the 23-year-old midfield star.

However, in the summer, the only viable option for Hackney was staying in the Championship but heading to Ipswich, after Boro accepted a £20 million offer.

The Teessider turned that move down and opted to stay with his boyhood club.
