Understudy can take up lead role

UNDERSTUDY can finally take a starring role when she lines up for the BetMGM River Eden EBF Fillies’ Stakes at Lingfield.

Winner of a Southwell novice on her second start in May, John and Thady Gosden took a brave route on her next start, pitching the daughter of Sea The Stars into the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Sent off a 40-1 chance in what was a weak renewal of the Group Two, Understudy outran her odds to finish second to Garden Of Eden - a run which saw her rating lifted to 102 and saw her confined to Listed company and above.

Well held in the Aphrodite Stakes subsequently, she has since posted better efforts when fourth in a Deauville Group Three and at the same level at Newmarket last time, with that second of those runs all the more creditable given she was hampered in the closing stages.
