A FORMER Middlesbrough girl who suffered a frightening city centre attack hopes to raise awareness of women’s safety issues as she sets her sights on the Miss England crown.
Corel-Jo Antwhistle was left with a split lip and ripped fingernails after a stranger followed her and attacked her before stealing her phone.
The 24-year-old, who now lives in Morpeth, said a police officer who attended the scene in Newcastle asked her if her attacker was just being “flirty”.
After reaching the finals of the Miss England competition in 2022, Corel took some time out to travel but has now returned to the contest.
As she prepares for semifinals next month, she said she hopes to use the competition as a platform to highlight issues of safety affecting women.
