No extra charge for rolling-out of new wheelie bins

NEW waste collection services set to be rolled out in Middlesbrough next year will not involve extra charges for residents.

At Middlesbrough's executive meeting earlier this month, it was confirmed that there would not be extra charges for residents as councillors discussed possible alternative receptacles for households which would struggle to fit an extra wheelie bin on their property.

Councillor Peter Gavigan executive member for environment and sustainability, outlined the upcoming statutory changes, which are set to see a weekly food waste collection begin, as well as the fortnightly collection of paper and card, separate to other recycling.

Both of these changes will be implemented from March 31, 2026. The following year, a fortnightly microfilm plastics collection is set to begin.
