Inmate injury claims cost taxpayer £225k

INJURED inmates at Holme House have received compensation payouts amounting to hundreds of thousands of pounds.

In the past five years, £224,915.85 worth of compensation payments have been made for prisoner injury claims at the category B Stockton jail.

The new data, obtained by Legal Expert, comes at a time where prisons across the country are overcrowded.

Teesside prisoners have walked out of jail early - having served 40% of their sentence - after the Government implemented plans to grant early release to around 1,000 prisoners.

Now, the figures have shown millions have been spent by the Ministry of Justice which is funded by the taxpayer - settling prisoner injury claims across the UK.
