Former Boro star Akpom 'ostracised by Ajax via WhatsApp'

THE Dutch players' union VVCS have released a statement condemning Ajax after seven players, including former Middlesbrough star Chuba Akpom, were ostracised from the first team.

Akpom (pictured) joined Ajax from Boro in the summer of 2023 after a fine season for Michael Carrick's side in which he netted 29 goals.
Helping Boro reach the play-offs, he became the first player since Bernie Slaven in 1990 to score 20-plus league goals in a campaign.
However, things have not worked out for the Arsenal academy graduate in Amsterdam, despite a rather impressive goals-per-minute ratio for the club. Struggling to nail down a regular spot in the side, he joined Lille in the January transfer window in a loan deal that included a purchase option.
