Edwards is now a tiny footnote in Boro's history - it is time to move forward

ROB Edwards' decision to leave Middlesbrough after just four months will leave a sour taste.
To say he wasn’t the glamorous candidate to replace Michael Carrick in the summer would be an understatement. And he knew that too. He spoke often about how fortunate he was to be given the role.
He believed in his ability, and to a large extent backed it up at the Riverside too, but the way things ended at Luton Town hardly made him hot property.
To be given such an excellent opportunity at Boro, and to then spend four months on a PR campaign of supporter relations, preaching the importance of sticking together and how incredibly fortunate he was to be at the club, only to jump ship at the first opportunity. Of course that leaves a sour taste.
To many, it won’t reflect well on Edwards at all.
Boro fans certainly made their feelings clear on Saturday at the Riverside. If he ever visits, he can expect a frosty reception to say the least.
Wolves at home in the FA Cup, anyone?
There is a more nuanced response, of course. It’s disappointing that Edwards has chosen to leave after just four months, but, to a degree, it's understandable as well.
