SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN JAIL FOR SLASHING

- By ESTHER HALLIGAN

A CRACK cocaine addict attacked a man as he was watching Match of the Day, a court has heard.

Sean Derbyshire travelled to a house in Brompton, Northallerton, and punched his victim who was on the sofa watching TV at 6am.

The 40-year-old took a knife out of his jacket and slashed the man’s leg. The victim was lodging at the house and the householder stopped the situation from escalating further, by taking Derbyshire outside.

The man suffered a fracture to his leg and a cut on his lip.

Teesside Crown Court heard that Derbyshire had bought drugs off his victim; and that he believed the man was carrying a lot of cash.

Two hours later, on December 30, last year, Derbyshire returned to the house on Danes Crest.

This time he was accompanied by a man and woman, and he walked round to the back of the house and shouted to be let in.

“I’ve asked you nicely to open the door,” Derbyshire screamed, “you've got five seconds or this is going in.”

He began hitting the glass window of the patio doors with a long pole, until the glass cracked.

The people who lived in the house let him in, and Derbyshire’s victim ran upstairs, terrified.
