Care home failed to meet needs of some residents

A LINTHORPE care home failed to meet the needs of some of its users with autism and learning disabilities, a report has concluded.

St Mary's Care Home was assessed by the Care Quality Commission between February and May and the health watchdog found it to be “requiring improvement”.

The report said staff were “empathetic”, “kind” and “attentive”, however some people with speech-limited verbal communication skills were not offered choices or engaged in “meaningful” activity.

Inspectors said the care home on The Crescent had breached legal regulations by not meeting the needs of some of its users.

Overall the service was deemed to be “requiring improvement”. Safety, effectiveness, responsiveness and care were given the same rating, while leadership was rated “inadequate”.

The care home was initially registered to provide support for people living with dementia, mental health needs or physical disabilities.
