Burgzorg back to his best - but for how long?

DELANO Burgzorg has the ability to induce awe and vexation in equal measure. In this regard, he is surely Middlesbrough’s most frustrating player.

- By CRAIG JOHNS

It's his awe-inducing moments and undoubted talent that make the Boro man so incredibly frustrating at times, because he just hasn't yet been able to produce that top level consistently enough. There’s very little more exasperating than a player who has all the talent, but can’t show it often enough.

It’s for that reason that Burgzorg has been unable to nail down a consistent place in the Boro side since his arrival last summer. But, after barely featuring in recent weeks and seemingly falling well down the pecking order, a rare start on Friday against Ipswich Town reminded everyone just how effective the 26-year-old can be.

He was an outlet for Boro to hit time and time again. The ball stuck well to him, and he used his strength well to hold off defenders, while his pace and skill meant he carried his side further up the pitch constantly.

Such is the rule on own goals, he won't be credited with an assist for Boro’s opener, but make no mistake, he created that goal. The holdup, spin and drive inside the penalty area was a trademark Burgzorg move.
