COURTROOM DISRUPTION AS TRIO ARE SENTENCED

- By ESTHER HALLIGAN estherhalligan@reachplc.com @TeessideLive

TWO brothers fought their female neighbour on the street where they live - and all three of them ended up in court.

Michael Beattie, 41, and Laura Horrigan, 41, exchanged blows on Longhirst in Coulby Newham - after Horrigan came out of her house, armed with a plumber’s spanner, on July 11, 2023. Jack Beattie, 32, joined the fight - he put Horrigan in headlock and brought her down to the ground.

Michael Beattie then kicked her repeatedly as she lay on the ground. Teesside Crown Court has heard that other adults tried to pull him off as Horrigan was choking. There was disruption in court as the three appeared to be sentenced for the violence.

Judge Joanne Kidd had to keep the brothers away from Horrigan by sentencing them separately and ensuring that Horrigan was with the probation service, before the Beattie brothers were released from the cells to be brought up to court.

A member of the public disrupted the hearing from the public gallery, as the judge threw him out “for being intoxicated” and she later warned the Beattie brothers not to turn up to court “under the influence of drugs.” The judge warned the Beatties that she would have them arrested if there were any problems when they left court.
