'BAGANI SA GUGMA'

- By JANUAR JUNIOR AGUJA

Oh! Caraga's 1st solo concert is a career-defining milestone

Oh! Caraga was supposed to hold an album launch event for their sophomore record “Bagani” when one of their trio members, Kenneth Corvera, felt that nothing meaningful would come out if they did a small-scale event. He had an ambitious idea: what if they organized their first headlining show instead?

Composed of brothers Sherwin and Adam Corvera and their friend Sherwin Fugoso, the Caraga-born, Cebu-based band has been doing everything in-house, including releasing their latest album without the backing of a major label. They know it's risky to hold a concert without a major promoter, and even precarious to organize one entirely on their own, despite assistance from various sponsors.

But they promised a grand show for their debut solo concert, “Bagani sa Gugma,” held on October 24 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. It's safe to say the band made every peso of everyone's ticket that night worth it.

It was a two-and-a-half-hour spectacle that played to the band's strengths as stage performers. They weren't just musicians playing instruments; they were compelling storytellers, with a commanding presence that captivated an audience already in love with their relatable lyrics and infectious melodies.

The concert was divided into three segments: Genesis, Evolution, and Revelation, designed to showcase the band's ethos as a proudly Bisaya act and to highlight their evolution since their 2017 debut.

Between these segments were orchestral interludes and short video interviews featuring each member reflecting on their journey, why they formed the band, and what they hope to inspire in their listeners.
