Martinez welcomes food security plan

Ex-officio Cebu Provincial Board Member and Liga ng mga Barangay President Celestino “Tining” Martinez III welcomed the introduction of two high-value crops, sorghum and soybeans, to revitalize idle lands, particularly in the northern towns.

This came following an impromptu meeting with former Agriculture secretary Manny Piñol, who now serves as the food security adviser to newly-elected Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro. Piñol was in Cebu to lead an orientation on upland farming and fish cage cultivation, both key components of the province's Food Security Program.

Martinez emphasized the timeliness of introducing sorghum and soybeans, especially in areas affected by the long-standing closure of sugar mills.
